Separating Fat from Fiction

The Fat Summit – Separating Fat from Fiction”  I’m super excited about this summit!  For years I had an unhealthy relationship with fat. Growing up we always had whole milk and butter, but somewhere along into my teen years my thinking became something like this: “why put butter on my food?  I’ll just pass and eat those 100 calories in the form of a banana or something.”  I mean, we are constantly bombarded with the message that “fat is bad, fat is our greatest enemy” and I actually bought into it, until I lost my health.  After over a year of exhausting health issues and much research, I began to have a more open mind.  Since I needed help, I decided to give this a try.  I had to start slowly because my body (liver and gallbladder specifically) wasn’t used to eating very much fat, but pretty soon, I began to take those vital steps of change.  Steps like taking fermented cod liver oil, putting a big scoop of coconut oil on my oatmeal, indulging in avocados, golden pastured butter and lots of farm eggs!  I’ve even become so bold as to start using pastured lard and tallow in my cooking!

Through changing my diet, I regained my health, my skin became glowing, my acne disappeared, my hormones are balanced, my digestion is better, immune system strong and I’m a nice, healthy body weight. On top of this, my body has given birth to and nourished two beautiful, healthy children in the course of about 22 months.  Are you curious yet?  Sign up for the Fat Summit to learn about healthy fats and the vital role they play in our bodies.  Also, learn the history behind the low-fat fad and how it has completely degraded the health of our society. In fact, it has done more to get us on pharmaceuticals than anything else, because of how detrimental it is to our bodies to shun fat. (I should note I will receive no benefit if you sign up – other than the joy of having you learn from these valuable experts)

Some fascinating fat facts: Did you know that for thousands of years, humans have been eating high-fat diets and living long, healthy lives?  Did you know that your brain is 60% fat, and low fat diets are linked to depression, dementia, Alzheimer’s, mood imbalances and other brain disorders?  Did you know that sugar and carbs are the real causes of obesity and heart disease?  Did you know that you should increase your consumption of healthy fats to lose weight?  Did you know that all calories are not created equal and that it matters far more what you eat than how much you eat?  Did you know that cancer cells have zero receptors for fat and that you can starve cancer on a healthy high fat diet?  Did you know that consuming good fat promotes optimal fertility, greatly reduces birth defects, reduces inflammation, balances your hormones, keeps you satiated, and helps you feel and perform your best?  Did you know that if you don’t eat enough fat, your body uses sugar, and through an insulin spiking process it converts it to fat and stores it? Did you know that you need to consume a good fat when you eat vegetables in order to absorb vitamins like A, K, D and E from vegetables?  Did you know that healthy fats balance your blood sugar and keep if from spiking if you eat it with something sweet?  Click here to learn all this and much more from the Fat Summit.

Now just to clarify, in case you don’t tune into the summit (which I hope you do), that we’re not talking about fats like canola oil, soybean oil, margarine, corn oil, sunflower and safflower oil.  All of theses are highly processed, highly inflammatory, endocrine disrupters, unusable in your body’s natural hormone process, cause heart disease and a multitude of other health problems.  Also, they are rancid before ever hitting the shelves due to the high heat process it takes to extract these oils. Lastly, these were not even a thing until the industrial revolution because you can’t extract the oils from the grains without machinery. These are the fats you want to avoid like the plague.

But I digress. The purpose of this post isn’t so much to educate (otherwise it would have to be about twenty pages long), but I just want to encourage people to sign up for this summit and learn for yourself.  Also, I’m not saying to go insanely overboard on fat, but not to fear it as an enemy.  Don’t shun it, but embrace it as a helpful, healthful friend.  Indulge without fear in this much-needed food group and your body will thank you. See if you notice a difference after adding good fats into your diet for a month and removing the bad.  It will affect your energy, your metabolism, your fertility, your skin, and most importantly your brain!  And while you’re at it, pass the butter, baby!  I’m super stoked about this summit!  Remember the words of Julia Child, “If you’re afraid of butter, use cream.”  Couldn’t have said it any better myself!

2016 – the Year of Praise

Happy 2016, a little late from the writer of this neglected blog.  One of my goals is to blog at least once a month in 2016.  I can’t aim too high in the blogging world over here, based on my track record!  🙂   Hopefully, soon I will be sharing my birth story (probably 6+ months after the fact!), some more recipes, and some things the Lord has been teaching me.  untitledhi3So last month while reading through the book of Revelation, I started noticing all the verses that are direct praises to the Lord God Almighty.  The Lord put on my heart to have this new year be the year of praise to Him.  This has become my theme for 2016 – the year of praise!

As a conformation to that, a few days into the new year, the Lord gave me these verses in my quiet time: “Let the saints be joyful in glory: let them sing aloud upon their beds.  Let the high praises of God be in their (your) mouth, and a two-edged sword in their (your) hand;”  Psalm 149:6

We, as believers should be verbally singing the praises of the Lord all day long.  The two-edge sword is representative of the Bible, so with the Bible in our hand (which means we are reading it) we are to be joyful in the Lord with the exalted praises of God continually on our lips!  Psalm 22 says that the Lord inhabits the praises of His people, so if we want our God to be near to us, we need to be praising Him all throughout the day.  If we are going to spend all of eternity praising our God, then why don’t we start practicing for heaven here on this earth?  Why should we spend so much of this short, short life here on earth murmuring and complaining when God has redeemed us through the precious blood of His own Son?  Why not start the habit now of singing the high praises of our God to our God, for He alone is worthy!

“I will bless the Lord at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth.”  Psalm 34:1

For this new year, I’m reading through my Bible and searching for all the verses that bless and praise the Lord God.  I’m writing them down in a little notebook and keeping it handy so that I can start using them in my prayers to the Lord and in everyday speech.  Crying out these praises to God lifts my soul to heaven and my mind to the eternal!  It has already been such a powerful blessing!  We do control our thoughts, and we must work to keep them centered on the eternal, and on blessing the Lord!  This will spill out into blessing, and speaking blessings into the lives of those around us.  My toddler’s favorite phrase now is “praise the Lord”.  🙂  The littles do try to imitate us in so many ways.

There are so many, many verses praising and blessing the Lord once you start looking for them, but here are a few examples of what I’ve started praying to the Lord.  And this is only from the book of Revelation.  I’m excited to discover all the other verses!

Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.” Revelation 4:11

Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever.”  Revelation 5:13

“Amen: Blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, and honour, and power, and might, be unto our God for ever and ever. Amen.” Revelation 7:12

“Great and marvellous are thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are thy ways, thou King of saints. Who shall not fear thee, O Lord, and glorify thy name? for thou only art holy: for all nations shall come and worship before thee; for thy judgments are made manifest.”  Revelation 15:3-4

“Alleluia; Salvation, and glory, and honour, and power, unto the Lord our God: For true and righteous are his judgments:”  Revelation 19:1-2

I bless you, my reader in the name of the Lord!  May 2016 be a year of spiritual growth and praise to our God as we are given yet another year to discover His goodness!
